Moti pulao may also be called 'Kofta Pulao' with meatballs being called as 'moti' (pearls) in the rice.
It's an absolutely scrumptious recipe and very, very easy to make!
Ingredients:
Rice 1 kg (4 cups) (washed and soaked)
For the meatballs:
Mince meat 1/2 kg
Ginger-garlic paste 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Onions 2 medium (sliced)
Red chili powder 1 tbsp
Green chilies 4-6
Fresh coriander
Bread slice 2
Egg 1
Flour as required
For the gravy:
Onions 2 medium (finely sliced)
Ginger-garlic paste 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Red chili powder 1 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Whole garam masala 1 tbsp
Yogurt 1/2 cup
Tomato paste 4 tbsp
Chicken Stock 1 cup
Method:
Mix together all the ingredients of the meatballs except the egg. Grind them in the chopper. Take the mixture out in a bowl and add the egg. Mix well and make small meat-balls. Refrigerate for ten minutes then roll each of them in flour and fry them on medium heat till evenly browned.
In a large pot, heat some oil and add the sliced onions. Golden brown them. Now add the ginger-garlic paste, garam masala, cumin seeds, chili powder, salt and tomato paste. Mix well. Now add the fried meatballs. Stir by holding the pot-holders to avoid them from breaking. After cooking them for 2-3 minutes, take the meatballs out in a plate. Now add the rice, chicken stock and around 5 cups of water (use the same cup for measuring which you used for rice). Cover with a lid and simmer for around 8-10 minutes or till the rice is fully cooked. Now add the chopped green chilies, coriander and the meatballs. Mix gently and serve!
*You can also substitute meat for chicken.

ReplyDeleteMai ne yahan pe abhi pura itna bara comment likha tha aur wo ghayab hogaya khud ba-khud. I was saying, I tried this recipe yesterday. I was looking for a kofta biryani recipe but came across this so chose it. I was missing all the green ingredients so it didn't turn out as good as your version (judging from the picture) but what saved it from being a disaster was the meatballs ki recipe. We loved it. The meatballs were soft and delicious and juicy. I made them with chicken. I also just noticed you *do* have a separate kofta biryani recipe here and I can't wait to try that next.
